A startup's journey to sales success

Hi Reader

I hope July is treating you well so far!!!

Last week I wrote a LinkedIn post about the founder's impact on a startup's sales.

Check it out HERE.

In this newsletter, I want to dive deeper into certain parts and today I'll cover 1️⃣ in more detail.

"The Valley of Despair"

The valley of despair (VOD) is a widely studied topic and exists in countless different areas.

No matter how seasoned a founders is in sales or more technically minded, there is no escaping going through this challenging but predictable stage in sales.

There is gold to learn during this phase and this is where resilience is born. If you bring in others to early during this stage, it will could possibly have long-term consequences for the success of your business.

An article by SurveyPoint, give 7 tips to overcome the valley of despair and is completely relevant for startup sales being led by the founder.

FYI, it also is relevant to new sales people entering a new role as everyone goes through this challenging sale.

In summary, here are their 7 tips;

  1. Acknowledge your feelings
  2. Break it down
  3. Celebrate small wins
  4. Get support
  5. Stay positive
  6. Take a break
  7. Keep going
Stay positive, this stage won't last forever if you learn the right lessons!

When I went through this learning stage selling B2B SaaS it was overwhelming and I couldn't see the end at the time.

But once I made it to the other side, it was transformational for my life and career.

For me, I learned to celebrate the small wins, stay positive and kept going...

You got this!!!

Do you need help?

This is one of the main reasons I started SMF was to help founders and their teams get through this stage faster and set them up for long term success earlier in their journey.

If you are going through some challenges in your business, you're welcome to book in a strategy call to see if I can help.

During the session, we cover;

  • What are your current sales challenges
  • What are your sales goals
  • Recommended action plan
  • How we might be able to help

Enjoy the rest of your week.

Cheers

Gavin

Hello Reader, Today, I’m going to speak about the challenging topic of hiring salespeople, why many businesses get it wrong, and, more importantly, how to fix it. First, let me share my story about how I got into selling B2B SaaS for an Australian startup and the salespeople I came across in my time to give you some context. Before entering B2B SaaS, I was a business development manager for WorkPac, a blue-collar recruitment company. It was my responsibility to find civil construction...
