A Quick Update (And An Invitation)

Hi Reader

I wanted to reach out and apologise for being a little quiet over the past few months.

A lot of my focus has been dedicated to SixSides as we've been working hard to take the platform to market.

As you can imagine, building a business while serving clients can be a balancing act, and SixSides has required a significant amount of my attention.

The good news is that the principles I've been teaching clients over the years have been put to the test in our own business—and they've delivered.

Recently, we secured a major agreement with the organisers of the World Police & Fire Games 2027.

More importantly, the opportunity has helped provide the funding and momentum needed to support the business over the next 9–12 months as we continue to grow.

What was interesting about this win wasn't the outcome itself, but the process that led to it.

As we worked through the opportunity, I had a bit of an epiphany.

For years I've spoken about Sales Market Fit, buyer journeys, ROI, demand creation, and helping buyers justify change.

But the more I reflected on what was actually driving successful outcomes, the more I realised that everything starts with the problem.

Not the product.

Not the features.

Not the demo.

The problem.

This led me to develop what I'm calling Problem-Led Growth - a practical approach to B2B go-to-market strategy focused on helping businesses create demand, prove value, and accelerate growth by deeply understanding, articulating, and quantifying the problems they solve.

Being problem-led is critically important, especially in B2B SaaS and service-based businesses.

The reality is that many of the problems we solve are so large, so ingrained, and so accepted as "the way things are" that buyers often struggle to fully articulate the impact themselves.

Workarounds have been built.

Processes have evolved around the problem.

The cost is hidden.

The risk is invisible.

The opportunity is unclear.

As vendors, founders, and sales professionals, our job is not simply to sell a solution.

Our job is to help buyers understand the true impact of their current situation, create the need for change, and build a compelling case for action.

That's exactly what Problem-Led Growth is designed to help businesses do.

To support this, I've launched a new community called Problem-Led Growth for B2B GTM for founders, sales professionals, and GTM leaders who want to improve how they create demand, prove value, and win business.

Inside the community, I'll be sharing:

  • B2B GTM strategy frameworks
  • Demand creation techniques
  • ROI and business case development
  • Buyer journey mapping
  • Sales execution strategies
  • Lessons learned from real-world client engagements
  • The tools and thinking behind Problem-Led Growth

If that sounds interesting, I'd love for you to join us.

As always, thank you for your support, and I look forward to reconnecting more regularly.

Cheers,

Gav

Hi Reader If you’ve ever struggled to articulate your value clearly to the right clients, this might be the most useful framework you add to your business this year. When I started out in sales, our founders had a gut instinct about who our ideal clients were—but no system to scale that insight across the team. Our value prop changed depending on who we was talking to, and it was hard to know if the message would land. It was hard to share lessons and insights across the team based on...

Hi Reader Many of you who subscribe to my newsletter are founders on a mission to grow your business, and I have a huge amount of respect for you. And many of you are salespeople working closely with founders to help them achieve their goals. Both categories are affected by the poor transition from founder-led sales to team-based selling. I've worked for a number of startups, and this transition seemed to be done with no real consideration of the key milestones above being achieved. The...

Hi Reader I hope July is treating you well so far!!! Last week I wrote a LinkedIn post about the founder's impact on a startup's sales. Check it out HERE. In this newsletter, I want to dive deeper into certain parts and today I'll cover 1️⃣ in more detail. "The Valley of Despair" The valley of despair (VOD) is a widely studied topic and exists in countless different areas. No matter how seasoned a founders is in sales or more technically minded, there is no escaping going through this...
